Tamaya Wine - Reserva Line - Carménère

Deep and intense purple in color introducing a powerful and spicy nose of red peppers, blackberries and plums. Fine and complex toast notes add to the complexity. Voluminous and juicy, the mouth is concentrated and fresh at the same time. The structure of round and numerous tannins leads to a great spicy finish of peppered black fruits.

Carménère Reserva

Style: Elegant, potent and well-balanced

Production: 6.888 cases

Yield: 8 ton/hectare

Soil Type: Alluvial, rocky clay in Tamaya South and sandy loam in Tamaya North

Harvest: Manual. Grapes are carefully transported to the winery in small containers.

Analysis: Alcohol 13.5 % vol.

Vinification: The grapes were handpicked during the third and fourth weeks of May and carefully transported to the winery. There were destemmed, lightly crushed and deposited into stainless steel tanks for fermentation. The must was inoculated with selected yeasts and allowed to ferment at 28 – 30 degrees C (82 – 86 degrees F) with regular pumpovers that ranged from 1.5 times the volume in the beginning to half volume at the end. Upon completion of the alcoholic fermentation, the wine remained on its skins for another week to develop additional structure and character. The wine was then separated from the skins, the skins pressed, and the press wine was reserved separately. The free-run wine was aged in oak barrels for 9 months and then blended 50 – 50 % with remaining wine that has been held in stainless steel tanks. The finished wine was cold stabilized, filtered, and bottled.

Tasting Note: The nose of this wine is as expressive as its impacting and intense purple color. Staring in black fruits such as blueberry, fresh crushed blackberries, black olives and mineral hints. Tones of smoked licorice, grilled dried fruits and mocha are also present above sweet and spicy attractive red peppers. Charming, the mouth presents a spherical geometry, filled by a fleshy texture and armed with ripe and velvety tannins. A fair acidity joins the whole structure, adding lively brightness. This great balance remains in a fresh and voluptuous finish made of wild berries, spicy and grilled sensations undertone by sweet flowered tones.

Best Enjoyed: Best enjoyed within five years

Winemaker: Jose Pablo Martin
